"Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee has reconstituted the seven-member National Commission for Minorities (N.C.M.) and appointed its erstwhile Vice-Chairman Tarlochan Singh as Chairman. Mr. Tarlochan Singh has the distinction of being the first member of the minority Sikh community to head the N.C.M. and will have a tenure of three years till 2006. He had earlier served as Press Secretary to then-president Giani Zail Singh. Dr. M.S. Usmani, an educationist, will be the new Vice-Chairman of the N.C.M. Other members of the reconstituted N.C.M. are the Ven. Bhante Arya N. Srei Sasai, Mr. V.V. Augustine, Lt. Gen. A.M. Sethna, Mr. Ahmed Rashid Sherwani and Mrs. K. Santhaa Reddy. General Sethna of the dwindling and minuscule Parsee community is the only other member from the previous N.C.M. to be retained in the reconstituted one."
