W. Hew McLeod: Taller Than Macauliffe

By T. SHER SINGH

Sikhe.com, Jun. 18, 2002

"Hew McLeod's work certainly does not deserve any degree of boorishness or rudeness on the part of any one. I know there are some people who have strong and negative views on his work. I too have some disagreements over some of his methods and conclusions. But that doesn't blind me to the fact or prevent me from acknowledging that he is one of the giants in the field of Sikh scholarship in the English language. I rank him with Max [A.] Macauliffe. It is arguable that McLeod's contribution and our debt to him are even greater."

"In no other community do laypersons read scholarly works in such numbers and with such ardour."
