About Surinder Kaur Bhui (1941-1991)
September 7, 2006 marked Surinder's 65th birth anniversary.
Surinder (Sinna) Kaur Bhui was born on Sep. 7, 1941 to Tarlochan Singh Marwa and Prakash Kaur in Lahore (Punjab, now in Pakistan), raised at the I.T.C. colony in Baridih, Jamshedpur (also known as Tatanagar), Jharkhand (formerly Bihar), India, and educated at Jamshedpur Women's College.
Surinder was a talented hostess with a passion for wideranging interests including poetry, painting, cooking, short story writing, flower arrangement, interior decoration, salad carving, tatting, drama, crotchet, and knitting. Her aptitude at these won her several awards.
She married Pritam Singh on Nov. 1, 1963 at Jamshedpur. Surinder was responsible for the launching of Kaur's Kindergarden (1977-1981) in Ahmedabad and the magazine Pratibimbh (Reflection) while serving as secretary (1986-1987) of the O.N.G.C. Ladies Club in Nazira, Assam. Surinder was responsible for Pratibimbh's cover design and served as its Hindi editor. Surinder and Pritam produced four children (in chronological order): Navneet (Gugloo) Singh, Amrita (Maanu) Kaur, Sumeet (Boney) Singh, and Samita (Sonu) Kaur.
She was fluent in several languages including English, Punjabi, Hindi, Tamil, and Bengali. Surinder passed away on July 16, 1991.
